Barcelona, February 28, 2024 – Fractus’ presence at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024 has been remarkable, especially at the 4YFN event, considered a fundamental pillar for the Deep Tech ecosystem. During the event, Fractus shared its experience and vision in several key activities.
• Open Innovation Challenge – Matchmaking: Fractus immersed itself in an exciting event organised by ACCIÓ, where matchmaking meetings were held with startups from all over the world. With more than 930 registrants, this initiative allowed valuable connections to be made and new opportunities for collaboration to be explored. See our insights in the following interview to Carmen Borja, Fractus CTO.
• Roundtable: 10 years of Local Heroes. This roundtable discussed crucial issues such as access to markets, talent, funding, and future challenges. Rubén Bonet, CEO and co-founder of Fractus, highlighted the impact of the company’s R&D investment in Barcelona, underlining how this city has become a technological reference thanks to the Mobile World Congress.
• Roundtable: Why Deep Tech startups should invest in a solid patent strategy? Carles Puente, Fractus co-founder, participated in this debate on the growth of the startup ecosystem in Europe and the importance of intellectual property in securing successful funding. In this context, Puente pointed out that “patents are not defensive tools, patents are business tools that deeptech companies should embed in the core of their business models”.
• Roundtable: How to monetise your technology through intellectual property. Fractus CEO, Rubén Bonet, shared his perspective on the business opportunities for Deep Tech companies in protecting their intellectual assets. He indicated that “sometimes to monetize your IP you will have to litigate”.
In addition and as part of the Deep Tech Hub activities, we also took a tour with the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya – Barcelona Tech to meet the different startups that were at 4YFN. We visited Vaive Logistics, Nimble Diagnostics, Showee and Algorae among others.
