Barcelona, Spain, October 22, 2013 – Fractus is releasing a revolutionary new technology, with the first of its Virtual Antenna™ products. The Fractus® Virtual Antenna™ solution provides a way not only to operate current mobile bands but also to upgrade the bands for cellular platforms to LTE and follow-up generations. Additionally, this ultra-compact antenna solution can be standardized across multiple devices and platforms.
“The new Virtual Antenna™ technology is a consequence of multiple Research and Innovation projects in the R&D Department”, said Dr. Jaume Anguera, R&D Manager at Fractus. “The new technology will be appealing for the new generation of Smartphones and Wireless Devices.”
The mXTEND™ Antenna Booster brings to market a new generation of antenna solutions based on the Virtual Antenna™ technology. The technology is mainly focused on providing miniature and standard off-the-shelf components to replace conventional multiband antenna solutions.
“This solution eliminates the need to include large customized antenna,” said Dr. Aurora Andújar, an R&D engineer at Fractus. “It frees space to enable emergent technologies such as MIMO, as well as to integrate other handset components, services and functionalities.”
The first Fractus mXTEND™ Antenna Booster (product FR01-S4-250) has been specifically designed for providing multiband performance in wireless devices (mobile devices in particular). Measuring only 5mm x 5mm x 5mm, it enables worldwide coverage by allowing operation in the communication standards GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800/DCS, GSM1900/PCS, UMTS, LTE2100, LTE2300 and LTE2500. The mXTEND™ Antenna Booster product user manual is available at https://www.fractus.com/sales_documents/FR01-S4-250/UM_FR01-S4-250.pdf. For further information, please contact info@fractus.com.
“We are very enthusiastic about this new concept,” stated Josep Portabella, products and services director at Fractus. “The simplicity of the Virtual Antenna™ technology will help our customers to significantly accelerate their time to market in terms of design and manufacturing.”
ABOUT FRACTUS, S.A.
Fractus is an early pioneer in developing internal antennas for cellular phones, tablets and other devices. In 1995, Fractus CTO Dr. Carles Puente filed the world’s first application for a patent on fractal antennas for mobile telecommunications. Four years later, in 1999, Fractus was born. The company set out to meet the challenge of delivering antennas small enough to fit inside a cell phone yet powerful enough to support today’s multiband phones. Today, Fractus holds an intellectual property rights portfolio of more than 50 inventions protected through approximately 200 patents and patent applications in the US, Europe and Asia, and has shipped more than 35 million antennas worldwide. Among the numerous awards and honors the company has received for its innovative work, Fractus has been named a 2005 Davos World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and one of Red Herring’s top innovative companies for 2006. It has also won the 2004 Frost & Sullivan award for technological innovation and the 2010 National Communication Award of the Government of Catalonia in the telecommunications category.
